MISSION STATEMENT

Our mission at Holy Name of Mary is to help provide opportunities for students of varying backgrounds to develop in their spiritual, moral, intellectual, emotional and cultural life while at the same time addressing their physical well being. We will strive to accomplish this by integrating the teachings of the Catholic church with the academic principles taught in the classroom. In our efforts to aid in the development of the whole child, we provide a strong basic standards-based curriculum with spiritual and moral nurturing.

PHILOSOPHY

We, the faculty at Holy Name of Mary, as Christian Educators, in conjunction with the parents who are the primary educators of their child(ren), work together to integrate the teachings of Catholicism, Christian values, and academic principles within the school setting and aim for the total development of the child. Thus, the children are hopefully able to become fully integrated Christian persons who recognize Christ in others and themselves.

In order to implement the philosophy of Holy Name of Mary School we propose the following objectives in each area of development in which we strive to aid the students:

1. Spiritual Development
a) Be examples of Christian living
b) Begin and end each day with a prayer
c) Provide instruction in religious truth and values
d) Encourage parents to attend student masses and paraliturgical services

2. Moral Development
a) Give opportunities for decision making by presenting the alternatives, and stressing the importance of distinguishing between right and wrong
b) Establish a classroom atmosphere based upon openness and trust

3. Emotional Development
a) The use of positive reinforcement in all relationships
b) Constant respect for others

4. Intellectual Development
a) Meet the varying teaching needs and learning experiences of each child
b) Emphasize overall effort as well as academic achievement

5. Social Development
a) Provide some services for immediate and larger community
b) Involve the community in our school
c) Encourage respect for the rights and property of others
d) Foster an appreciation of cultural diversity

6. Physical Development
a) Emphasize personal hygiene and nutrition
b) Stress physical fitness
c) Foster chastity using guided Christian principles
